FAQ – Kevin Stanton Woodworking
About the Products
Q: What types of wood do you use for your spoons?
A: I use any wood I find for spoons. All wood is “spoon wood”—fallen branches, reclaimed pieces, or any piece of discarded wood that has the right grain, strength, and character can be made into a spoon. Each piece is unique.
Q: Are all your spoons made from reclaimed or fallen wood?
A: Yes! The spoons are crafted from wood that’s already fallen from the tree. Whether it’s fallen in a storm, trimmed by a tree service, or gathered from the roadside, each piece of wood is rescued and given new life in your kitchen or home.
Q: Are the finishes you use food-safe?
A: Yes! All spoons and kitchen items are finished with walnut oil and linseed oil, both of which are completely food-safe. These natural oils protect the wood, bring out its beautiful grain, and ensure your spoon or utensil is ready for everyday use.
Q: How long does a spoon typically last?
A: With proper care, a spoon can easily last 10 years or more.
Q: Are there any woods you never use for spoons?
A: Yes — I avoid wood that is already dry or severely cracked. Only strong, intact pieces are transformed into spoons or furniture. The rest is mulch and firewood.

Q: Do you ship outside NYC?

Care & Maintenance
Q: How should I care for my wooden spoon?
A: To keep your spoon looking fresh and vibrant, you can apply walnut oil or linseed oil at any time. This nourishes the wood and helps maintain its natural sheen.
Q: Can spoons go in the dishwasher?
A: No — dishwasher heat and water can damage the wood. Always wash by hand.
Q: Do furniture pieces require special care?
A: Not especially — just regular cleaning with care.
Q: How do I clean spoons or furniture with your finishes?
A: Use mild soap and water, then let the wood air dry naturally. Avoid soaking or harsh scrubbing to preserve the finish and integrity of the wood.
