About

Kevin Stanton is a New York City–based woodworker with over 20 years of carpentry experience and a decade of hand-carving spoons. He works almost entirely with urban found wood — collected from city streets after storms, from tree trimmers, and from burn piles — using only an axe and two knives.

Wood is gathered green, when it’s softest and most responsive to the blade. Most of the carving happens before it dries; final cuts are made after a short curing period. Every piece is sealed with food-safe walnut oil and beeswax.

NYC has 270 species of tree. Kevin is working his way through them.
